The Ford Ecoboost engines have made a big splash in the auto industry. Available in both 4- and 6-cylinder spec, the engineers at Ford have been able to eek out some serious horsepower and fuel economy from these little power plants. The new F150's sporting the Ecoboost roll off the assembly line with 365 HP and 420 FT-LBs of torque... out of a 3.5L V6, those are fantastic numbers!
It was only a matter of time until the aftermarket got a hold of one and pushed it to the limits. Today, Superchips has cracked the code and is now offering two performance tunes, and a towing tune, for the 2011 F150 Ecoboost.
First things first, let’s take a look at the 91-octane performance tune. On the Superchips dyno, their stock F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine laid down 315.3 horsepower @ 5500 RPM and 372.2 FT-LBs of torque @ 3100 RPM. After Superchips worked their magic, max power gains were +54 HP & +68 LB-FTs of torque, landing the F150 at a very respectable 369.1 horsepower @ 5700 RPM and 440.3 FT-LBs of torque @ 2200 RPM. That is a HUGE torque gain, bringing on peak power a full 900 RPMs lower in the rev band.
