Description

The fire in your engine’s belly needs plenty of oxygen to keep burning. Your AEM Cold Air Intake delivers that air injection, but it’s dangerous work. Living down around the bottom of your bumper, that air intake is liable to breathe in water on rainy days. Because a wet filter won’t work, you need the performance protection of an AEM Air Bypass Valve. In case of hydro-lock, this valve opens up and sucks in life-saving air from inside the dry engine compartment.

Singers know that their strength lies in their diaphragm, and the same is true of the AEM Air Bypass Valve. When it senses a clogged intake, it shuts down the main induction and starts breathing through its external diaphragm. And, the built-in filter blocks crud from creeping in.

Your AEM Air Bypass Valve is built strong using a sonically welded cage with nylon reinforcement, and its urethane flapper is nearly impervious to harsh chemicals. You even get a 1-year warranty.

"The bypass valve is key to saving your engine from water damage. The only problem is it breaks every year from vibrations and normal wear and tear but other than that it does its job keeping water out of my engine."

"By relocating your air filter under your front bumper, you put your engine at risk. This is really cheap insurance agaist water getting into your engine. But, this thing is thin and cheaply made. It's a good thing it installs easliy because it will last you about a year before the engine heat and vibration rip it in half and you gt to put on a new one, just like I get to do every year. Don't bother with the instructions, I think they are in Chinese. Just look at one in a photo, cut your pipe and put it on. If you can tie your shoes, you can install this."

"I wish they had told me about this when I bought the intake. I incurred additional expense by having to pay the mechanic to do the work twice. Otherwise I'm very happy with the increased performance of the intake and exhaust."

"I had to look online to find what the bypass valve looked like after instillation. It was easy to install but I didn't use the instructions that much in the installation."

Btpass Valve

Posted on 01/23/2008 by Michael C. - 2001 Ford Focus (Hanover,PA)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"I got my bypass valve and installed it very easy. I only wish they would make the pipe out of the same material as the intake. My old one cracked throwing the idle off because it was before the mass air flow sensor, thus allowing more air to come in, usually not a bad thing, but threw the idle off. Everthing else is good, just use metal instead of plastic."

"Definitely a must have for rainy weather. The instructions were sort of unclear where to cut the intake. Had to go the AEM's website find out exactly where to cut the intake."

great product

Posted on 05/10/2007 by Robert G. - 2000 Honda Civic (Birmingham,AL)

"I have a lowered honda civic with a full cold air intake so my filter sits about 1.5 inches off the ground. when it rains here you have no choice but to drive through puddles that are at least that deep so the bypass valve prevents my engine from flooding. If you are installing a new intake system the installation of the bypass is just as easy as the gasket would be."
